When we are talking about the BAC exam, students tend to be scared of the speaking skill. The speaking exam has three tasks on a wide range of topics:
- Task 1 represents a short answer to a short question, related to teenagers' daily life;
- Task 2 represents a short description or a short narration;
- Task 3 represents a developed argumentative or discursive answer on a topic related to society and its problems;
Here you can find an example of the tasks you can find for the assessment of the speaking competence at the Baccalaureate exam:
- Simple Question- Short Answer
Do you enjoy taking photographs? Why?
Answer: Yes, I really enjoy taking photographs. I prefer taking photos when I have something to celebrate in my life or when I travel with my friends and I can see wonderful places. I love nature! I think the most important thing is capturing the essence of something. By taking photo of a special moment, time stops and you place that moment in your heart, forever!
- Short description/ Short narration
Describe your plans for the future.
Answer: I want to take the BAC exam, go to college and start a career in medicine. I want to become a good doctor. I'm ready to do all the sacrifices needed for that. I know it won't be easy because I have my cousin who is a medicine student now and she told me I need to do extra work besides the responsibilities that I will have as a med student and I'm ready for that.
Once I graduate from university, I'm considering working for a private clinic in a foreign country and, after a while, I will come back to my country. I know that years of hard working lie ahead of me, but I am confident it is the path for me to follow in the future.
- Developed argumentative or discursive answer
Give your opinion of the following: "Shopping is a form of therapy". Use relevant arguments and examples to support your ideas.
Answer: When they're under stress, people tend to do something, to cheer themselves up. Some people eat chocolate or sweets, others go shopping. Retail therapy is a good way to brighten up a day. To my mind, shopping is not a way of coping with stress, but travelling is.
Firstly, this shopping therapy can lead you to extreme levels of debt. It can start as an harmless mood booster and it can end as a compulsion that drains finances. Giving yourself a treat from time to time is fine but spending too much money on clothes or whatever you find in your hands is not fine at all. Debts can lead you to a bigger depression
Secondly, retail therapy can turn into addiction. A shopper doesn't feel good until it has gone over its budget limit when shopping. My friend realized she has a problem after she bought a lot in a year and one day she couldn't take her salary from the card because she had too much money to give back to a bank and the bank cancelled her credit card.
To conclude, shopping can't actually make someone feel better about the problems in his or her life. The solution lies in facing them. Otherwise, you will have bigger problems than before.
